'Understanding Fintech' meetup | Starling Bank
We are very excited to announce that our first 'Understanding Fintech' meetup will be held in partnership with the industry shaking Starling Bank!
This event will be relevant if you are a Techie working in or interested in the Fintech market. CTOs, Java/iOS/Android Developers, Testers, Architects & Product Managers specifically.
Starling provide a truly seamless and easy-to-use mobile-only banking platform and are in the process of launching fantastic features which you will LOVE. They are building a product for millions of people and this meetup will cover how they cope with delivering innovative software in a highly regulated industry.
Starling is also passionate about Women in Tech, leading from the top with female CEO Anne Boden and working towards a 50/50 workforce across Product and Engineering - they’re proud to be bucking the UK norm, which is different to the European market. How have they done this? Why have they done this? Anne and Sarah will shed some light at the event.
Some information on our speakers:
An introduction from Starling Banks CEO - Anne Boden
Anne is the brains, founder and driving force behind the fast-growing startup. She lives and breathes Starling and it's thanks to her drive that it is taking the Fintech market by storm. In her 'day job' as CEO, she oversees Starling's leadership team and focuses on delivering the vision, which is to provide first class customer experience and to ultimately build the best bank in the world.
Anne graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Chemistry before starting her career at Lloyds Bank where she helped architect CHAPS, the UK’s first real-time payments system.
Prior to Starling Anne was COO for Allied Irish Banks PLC. She was frustrated by the restrictions imposed by out-dated technology. This is when Anne decided the only way to solve this was to build a bank from the ground up. With the idea becoming reality in 2014, Starling has grown exponentially from there.
Sarah Guha, Product Director – Customer driven product development
As one of Starling’s Product Directors, Sarah is responsible for customer acquisition and engagement for the company’s mobile current account. Since joining in April 2016, she’s led the app’s account sign up, delivering KYC and AML processes and managing its design on iOS and Android.
Before joining Starling, Sarah worked in London and San Francisco, delivering content and products for brands like Virgin.com and Google Retail.
Dan Webb Head of Test – Testing without a test team
As Head of Test, Daniel is responsible for leading and encouraging a culture where Starling’s engineering team test everything that they build. Unlike other banks, Starling have made testing a company-wide responsibility. “If testing is good, everyone should be doing it all of the time.”
We have an exciting night in store with Starling Bank, and a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes at one of the most exciting Fintech companies in the UK at the moment.
Challenger Banks are literally changing the way that banking is done and are providing their customers with a new user-friendly, accessible and manageable service.
This is a meetup that you really don’t want to miss, so be sure to book your seat and be there on the night!
There will be pizza, drinks and networking after the talks, so make sure you have time to chat with the community afterwards.
We look forward to seeing you there and please ask if you have any questions.
